Louisville Intl. Airport Fire

Crash rescue units at the airport operate as part of the Louisville International Airport Department of Public Safety which manages all fire, police and ems services at the airport. SDF as Louisville International is known by to pilots, has a firehouse located on the east side of the airport midway between the passenger terminal and the UPS cargo area to facilitate rapid response to incidents at either end of the airport.


SDF fire units are dispatched through the control tower over the "CRASH PHONE" which is simulcast over a VHF radio frequency. After dispatch they switch over the MetroSafe 800MHz system. SDF fire operates a fleet of about 10 vehicles which include a large water tanker, 2 box vans, 3 pickup truck chassis utility units and 4 full size ARFF units.
