The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has an authorized strength of 240 personnel and currently serves a population of approximately 709,264.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office was founded in 1781 as a county agency established by the Virginia legislature for the Commonwealth of Virginia. At that time, what is now known as Louisville, consisted only of a few houses.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the execution of all court ordered documents such as EPO/Warrants, Evictions/Executions and Vehicle Inspections as well as providing Court Security and deputies for school resource and student education programs.

Jefferson County Sheriff also provides dispatching for the small cities within Louisville/Jefferson County such as Graymoor-Devondale PD, Indian Hills PD and many more.
